How We Rank Car Shipping Companies
We don't invent a star rating or a 0-to-100 score. We order companies using objective, public facts — BBB accreditation, years in business, federal operating authority, and the range of services they offer — and we link every profile to its BBB and FMCSA records so you can check the live details yourself.

BBB & FMCSA links
Company details here — licensing, BBB status, years in business, and services — come from public records and each company's own listings and can change over time, so verify current licensing and ratings using the links on every profile. Any cost figures shown are estimates, not quotes.
What we publish, and what we don't
This directory lists real car shipping companies. We do not publish our own rating, review, or score for any of them. The order you see in best-of lists and in the directory comes from the public signals below, applied the same way to every company.
For a company's reputation and current licensing, follow the BBB profile and FMCSA SAFER links on its page. Those sources are live and can change at any time.
The Signals We Order By
Companies are sorted by the signals below, in this priority order: a company that is BBB-accredited comes ahead of one that is not; among similar companies, the longer-established one comes first; then whether a USDOT number is on file; then how many services the company offers. It is a transparent sort of public facts, not a quality score.
- 1
BBB accreditation
Companies accredited by the Better Business Bureau are listed first, because accreditation is a public, checkable commitment.
- Whether the company is BBB-accredited
- The letter grade shown on its live BBB profile
- 2
Years in business
Longer-established companies rank ahead of newer ones, as a longer public track record is easier to verify.
- The year the company was founded
- How many years it has operated
- 3
Federal licensing on file
A company with a USDOT number on record — which you can look up on FMCSA SAFER — ranks ahead of one without.
- A USDOT number on record
- An MC (motor carrier) number where applicable
- 4
Breadth of services
All else equal, a company that covers more of the services shippers ask for is ordered ahead of a narrower one.
- Open and enclosed transport
- Specialty options such as classic, motorcycle, or expedited
Because the order is a factual sort, two companies can be very close together, and position on a list is not a verdict on which company will serve you better. Use it to build a shortlist, then compare written quotes.
Independent of Payment and Advertising
A company's position is based only on the public signals on this page. A company cannot pay for a better position, and it cannot pay to have a complaint or review removed from the sources we link to. If sponsorships or other paid placements are ever offered, they will be clearly labeled, kept visually separate from the ranking, and will never change a company's position. Read our advertiser disclosure for the full policy.
What We Don't Do
- Accept payment in exchange for a higher position in any ranking or list
- Invent our own star rating or 0-to-100 score for a company
- Favor a company because of a commercial relationship
- Guarantee prices, service quality, or the outcome of any shipment
Our Commitments
- Every company is ordered by the same signals in the same priority
- The signals and their order are published on this page
- Sponsored placements, if ever offered, are labeled and kept separate from the ranking
- For reputation and licensing we link out to BBB and FMCSA rather than scoring companies ourselves
Where the Inputs Come From
The signals above are drawn from public records and each company's own listings. We link to the primary sources on every profile so you can confirm anything for yourself.
FMCSA SAFER
Federal registration status, USDOT/MC numbers, and safety data. Every company profile links to its SAFER record so you can verify operating authority.
Better Business Bureau
Accreditation status, letter grade, and complaint history. We show accreditation where a company has a live BBB profile and link straight to it.
Company information
Services, coverage, founding year, and headquarters a company publishes about itself, checked against other public sources where possible.
Your own research
Written quotes, the contract, and recent third-party reviews. Our order is a starting point, not a substitute for checking a company yourself.
